Adobe Bridge

Adobe Bridge is a great tool to organise, browse, and locate your photos. In Adobe Bridge, you can view, search, sort, manage, and process image files. You can use Bridge to create new folders; rename, move, and delete files; edit metadata; rotate images; and run batch commands. You can also view information about files and data imported from your digital camera.

If you have Adobe Photoshop installed, you can open and edit camera raw files from Bridge and save them in a Photoshop-compatible format. You can edit the image settings directly in the Camera Raw dialog box without starting Photoshop. If you don’t have Photoshop installed, you can still preview the camera raw files in Bridge.

Batch Rename

One of my favourite features in Adobe Bridge is the ability to batch rename a group of images.

  1. While in Bridge select a group of image thumbnails you wish to rename.
  2. Select Tools > Batch Rename command.
  3. Under New Filenames in the Batch Rename dialog box, select whatever option you prefer. I usually use the text option. A convention I use when renaming images is using the following date format: yymmdd_ with an underscore for word separation.
  4. Click on the plus button for more options and select Sequence Number from the pop-up menu. Ensure the default 1 is selected or type 1 now. Also, make sure Tow Digits options is selected.
  5. The bottom preview pane shows the output of your choices.
  6. Click Rename.
